Luxembourg and Expo 2020 Dubai held a ground breaking ceremony on 28 April 2018 in Dubai. HE Deputy Prime minister and Minister of the Economy Etienne Schneider was accompanied by HE Commissioner General of Luxembourg Maggy Nagel and HE the Ambassador of Luxembourg to the UAE Elisabeth Cardoso for the breaking ground ceremony on the Luxembourg plot at the Expo 2020 Dubai. HE Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, Executive Director, Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau, was also in attendance.

The Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg is the first participant country besides the UAE that breaks ground on its plot at the Expo 2020 Dubai and has hereby officially launched the construction of its pavilion, which is placed under the theme “Resourceful Luxembourg”.

The Luxembourg Pavilion, inspired by a Moebius infinity stripe, will be located in the Opportunity District of Expo 2020 Dubai. The theme – ‘Resourceful Luxembourg’ – aims to reflect the country’s status as a smart nation that connects the human, natural, technical, industrial and financial resources. The construction will display Luxembourg’s ability to reinvent itself by tackling the challenges of sustainable development, responsible use of natural resources, connecting people in a multicultural setting and preserving the beauty of its environment.

The Luxembourg Pavilion was designed by the Luxembourg architects bureau METAFORM and will contain an exhibition space, a multi-purpose area, a restaurant, a shop, administrative offices and technical facilities.

On the occasion of this ground breaking ceremony, Minister Etienne Schneider stated : « Dubai is the first Arab city in the world to host a universal expo, with 25 million expected visitors. Luxembourg’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai is a unique occasion to present our country to the Middle East and the world. By its content and its modern and technically audacious structure, the Luxembourg pavilion aims to stimulate the imagination of the visitors in areas such as quality of life, innovation and sustainable development”.
